Hello linux mailing list members!!

  The wait is over .Yamaha sound drivers now can
be configured!To do so pls visit the following url
http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa/ftp/driver/
and download the alsa-driver-0.5.8b.t..> file

(last but 1 file just before the folders start)


Steps for configuring sound>

Log in as root and add the following 14 lines
to /etc/conf.modules file >>

#alsa native device support
alias char-major-116 snd
options snd snd_major=116 snd_cards_limits=1
alias snd-card-0 snd-card-ymfpci
options snd-card-interwave snd_index=0
snd_id="ymf724"
#oss freesetup
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss

**Note depending on ur driver line 6 can
  be ymf724 ymf324 etc***


Once the above lines have been added to /etc/conf.modules
do the follwoing for installation
1. create a folder under /root say /root/soundfolder

2. save the downloaded alsa-driver-0.5.8b.tar.bz2 file in this folder

Now logged in as root execute the follwoing commands

1.  bzip2 -d alsa-driver-0.5.8b.tar.bz2

2.  tar xvf alsa-driver-0.5.8b.tar

3.  ./configure

4.  make
  **command no 4 may take 5-7 mins on a pentium 3 machine

5.  make install

6.  ./snddevices

7.  modprobe snd-ymfpci

Reboot the machine
Log in as root In KDE
go to Xmixer and turn On the volume
Check for sound now

The above has been suggested by Abhilash who had been
trying to configure his yahama driver for last 6 months
We tried it today at his place and it worked.
Hope it works for u as well,Ther's no harm in trying!
