Try to connect to the internet WITHOUT squid. i.e. in Netscape, under Edit->Preferences...->Advanced->Proxies, click on 'Direct Connection to the Internet' and try to browse. If you can, yahoo java chat will work. Probably, you'll have to set up ip forwarding (ipfwadm or ipchains) and/or ip masquerading (ipmasqadm).
