It seems that u have default run level as 5. If you are able to get to the
root prompt, edit the /etc/inittab file, and put the defualt runlevel as 3
(look for a line that says id:5:initdefault:, change it to
id:3:initdefault: ). Next time you boot linux, you will atleast get to the
root prompt. The run xf86config or Xconfigurator from there.
For getting to the root prompt, try hitting Ctrl-Alt-Bksp from within the X
server. Or typr linux single at the LILO: prompt.
Hope this will help. Anybody correct me if I'm wrong somewhere.
