One of my friends had the same problem. We could find a temporary
solution by manually starting the xfs, not using the files in rc.d/init.d,
but directly with the command xfs -port -1 -daemon.
He did not try to find the problem and upgraded, we were planning
upgrade already :-)
And the problem had occured when we removed directories starting
with . in /tmp.
