     Hi,

Is there any such (open source) software available, similar to Mathematica

Sorry for the late reply. At our department a couple of us are using MuPAD
(http://www.mupad.de).
It is good. Has all the features of Mathematica. Binaries only. So, not open
source. But, it is free for personal use after you register it by sending them
an e-mail. There is even a windoze version. What we have observed is that some
heavy duty number crunching runs faster under linux. Interface is better
under win9x.

Some time I saw COCOA or something like that. Go to
http://sal.kachinatech.com and check under the relevant category. I
found it there.

Hope that helps you.
