I did that recently on our server.

1. Partition the new disk as you like....
2. Reboot into single user
3. mount the different partitions of the new hard disk onto a directory in /
e.g. /new-disk
e.g.

/new-disk/boot
/new-disk/home
/new-disk/var

4. then do a cp -a directory by directory from your 'ol filesystem to the
new hard disk's mount point.

e.g.
cp -a /boot /new-disk/boot
cp -a /home /new-disk/home

after you are sure about the copy operation you now need to make the new
hard disk startable for which you can install LILO on the new hard disk

change your lilo.conf in /etc to reflect the destination to be the second
hard disk.

I mean something like

disk=/dev/hdd bios=0x80
boot=/dev/hdd
map=/new-disk/boot/map
install=/new-disk/boot/boot.b
prompt
timeout
image=/new-disk/vmlinuz-<your kernel version>
    label=linux
    read-only
    root=/dev/hd<hdd partition>

This is a lot like what I had on the server when I installed lilo on the new
hdd

do a lilo -v

And you should be on....
don forget to change the lilo.conf back to normal settings once you are on
from the new hard disk.

Hope I am not wrong anywhere and you are not anywhere else on the kbd.... as
this is not a risk free operation.
