Many people have already told you about Xdefaults, but you can also do
this using the commandline:

xterm -g 80x50+100+100

That would start a terminal - 80 columns by 50 lines, at position
100,100. 

The same thing goes for Eterm, and a lot of other X apps - I wouldn't
know about Xemacs though! ;-)
