MAA Rizwan proclaimed:
> It is becoming a nightmare to post something on LIH. Everybody tries to stop
> you and tell don't do this, don't do that. Is this your manners?
Rizwan,
If you noticed, both Suresh and I were actually polite in our posts. We
clearly thanked you for doing a good job. And we provided suggestions for
the future. If you think the way we made suggestions were impolite, wait
till you see us actually flaming someone. ;-)
> If you
> don't want to read my mail, then simply delete them, why do you give pains
> to your fingers to tell me do this do that.
Unfortunately, it is not a question of just ignoring your post. As I have
explained, the 1000 members of this list had to spend money and bandwidth
downloading the rpm attachment that you sent. I know you did not do it on
purpose. I know it was probably a mistake. But think about it for a
second. Wouldn't it have been nicer if you send the URL for the rpm
instead of the entire rpm?
Why are people like Suresh and me reacting this way? You see some of us
have to deal with over 500+ emails every day. We spend a couple of hours
just readin and responding to email. So, any move to minimize the use of
bandwidth is to be recommended.
> Now, when I am posting url, some others telling me to make my home page and
> post my homepage's url for your pleasure.
A golden rule when forwarding news articles and websites is to send the URL
with a small comment saying what the URL has, instead of sending the entire
article. That way, only those that are interested will go over to the URL
and read the article. Bandwidth and timesaved for all concerned.
> Even, when I tried to more humble
> and polite with you all, why do you want to flame me? Isn't it my right to
> post something to LIH?
You have a right to post to LIH. In fact, I've found your posts most
helpful. What we are doing is not flaming. We are merely trying to
educate people on the netiquette of posting to mailing lists.
> I feel ashamed of being
> a member of LIH; instead I should have been a member of comp.os.linux,
> atleast those foreign people respect your doings.
Rizwan,
I apologize. I might have been a bit hasty in my wording. But please do
spend a moment to think about what Suresh and I said. Did we not say the
right thing?

Homer: Good news, everyone! I got in a fight with the garbage men and
they're cutting off our service!
Marge: Oh, lord, now what are we going to do? Just let the trash pile up?
Homer: Hey, I'd rather live in a dump than in a world run by snooty garbage
men.
