The X server problem was that there was too much disk thrashing.
Somewhat lesser in Window Maker/ Fvwm2 but very much still there. I
usually
had to kill X and restart especially if I had Netscape running. My
machine specs are :-

AMD 450 Mhz, 64MB RAM, Riva TNT 128 Bit 16 MB, Xfree86 3.3.6 using SVGA
server on RH 6.1, Kernel 2.2.12-20, swap 128 MB.

No such problems with your recipe. Works fine so far although there is
still a "little bit" of excess disk activity. I wonder if this is
because of the SVGA server itself. Maybe a better / more recent "driver"
for the display card may improve the situation ?? I am not aware of any
new linux driver for the RIVA TNT though Nvidia was planning to release
a binary for linux some time back. Or maybe I should try the new xfree86
4.x ?

Any thoughts on this ?
