Hi All!
I have been observing the discussion about lyx/klyx
(aka tex/latex) for some time in the LIH. Allow me to
put forward certain points.
First of all TeX/LaTeX is not a cup of tea for all! If
you have to write only letters or stuff like that,
please stick to MS Word or similar things. But, if you
plan to write papers (especially those containing
mathematics and similar things) or books, it pays to
to learn TeX/LaTeX.
Now about lyx/klyx. I have been a heavy user of tex/
latex for last five six years. And have been using
lyx/klyx for about two years and I have found it highly
useful.
If the options "fancy header" does not suit your
purpose, there is no way other than going to write a
latex preamble. You can do some research on how to
put other fancy headers (footers too!)
Regarding image, better convert all image to ps or eps
file. You can do this through many ways. One better
way is through the ubiquitous GIMP available on most
Linux machines.
Now about somebody making comment on lyx about having
to do many click-click-click (word like!) to write
mathematical stuff. My advice, do not remark, if you
have not found out yourself much about the stuff. No,
you don not have to do click-click-click... like you
do in MS Word, for writing a simple equation. Go to
math mode (either display or inline) inside lyx/klyx.
Then just type "\" (bkack-slash) and the keyword, like
you do in a plain editor, when you type a TeX/LaTeX
file. Voila! Lyx/klyx automatically uses WYSIWYG to
display the correct symbol/fraction etc.
Please consider this, that I have editted a full
100-page journal with all fancy headers/footers/fonts
for my Department using klyx.
