hi,
i landed myself, in another trouble. it is like this.
the X in my system just freezes after a min or two after starting it.
it happens either if i start an application or just like that. kpackage or
kedit for example.
i am using a cirrus logic card.
but i think it has nothing to do with the card because i have been using the
same card since some time and it has given me no prob.
text based front end programs like setup and ntsysv just present the screen
and then freezes. ps -aux on another virtual terminal shows that both the
program are in "R" state. i have to kill them. i have to reboot my system
when the X freezes.
i have an inkling that it is because i have uninstalled some neccessary packages.
i had uninstalled linuxconf and that lead to ntsysv not running. you see
i am short of disk space. i thought i would uninstall some packages that i don't
use. but i thought when you uninstall a package, if the are some dependent
packages then i would be warned. i have'nt done any forced uninstallations.
could someone explain this.
also when i attempt to compile the SDL package it says some asm/ioctl.h not
present. it is included in /usr/include/linux/ioctl.h
any clue which package holds these files?
also the magic sysrq key sequences have no effect. i have included the sysrq
option when i re-compiled the kernel.
thanks in advance
harsha
