Hi
This is more suited to LIP and looks like you are advocating it very strongly.
It's a good thing...
I would like to add to something....
The disadvantage of C/C++ touted is platform dependence as opposed to java but
JVM/JDK's like M$ ships are platform dependent enough. Furthermore what's the
use of deploying platform independent language on a platform you rarely change?
I seriously wonder why people jump for servlets when they can do it from C/C++.
when deploymed in production environment, performance is not something you
sacrifice.
I believe that unless same piece of code is required to be run on client as well
as server, java is useless. (Sorry all java fans. No hard feeling. I love it's
simplicity but ...). Even then, in such scenarios I would prefer python against
java as it does not need precompilation.
Deploying java for server side only processing is waste of java capabilities, a
technical joke and a big blunder.
There are few good side of java also. Like it's simple, it has large collection
of APIs that people needs, and it brings standardization across platforms.
Something C/C++ could not do. Not fault of language(s) but that of APIs and
h/w/s/w vendors.
Anyway I wouldn't prefer java unless it's required technically. GUI is not
something you do platform independent ... :))
I would like to know how many people use java because they want to. Every of my
java programmer friend tells me that he/she uses java because client/boss tells
to.
Bye
Shridhar
P.S. I know java and python only principally. I haven't written a single piece
of code in it. However I read a lot about them... :-))
