Get a new version of sendmail, say 8.11.1 and configure it properly.

Run netstat and check the results....there are a few clients
available like nessus which help. Someother tools are Psionic
portsentry and hostsentry.
But probably the best you could do is goto www.linuxdoc.org and read
the Security and Optimisation guide for RH available under the guides
section which is pretty much relevant to all distros. Then configure
ipchains.
