Nope this thread is not going to die without me being successful at NIS &
NFS!
Hello,
I'll first reply to the last message

If I suggested such a move to college, it would be considered (putting it
rather delicately) a complete waste of resources!
After facing all those obstacles in setting up NIS/NFS using RH6.2, I
decided to try Caldera. I don't want to enter distro wars, but apart from
the more flexible(and friendlier setup, even a text based one), Caldera, has
a lot more development tools then RH6.2 like ddd, kdevolp, etc.
My problem lies here. Caldera succefully detected my network cards and the
wizard setup 90% NIS. When I rebooted, I got the error, that the domain was
not bound. Obviously I needed to run ypinit -m. *I couldn't find this
script*. There was no makedbm either. After searching around, I found a
script in /etc/nis, titled nis_update. Executing this resulted in nothing.
Does anybody have any ideas about this?
Rajeev
