but it is redhat specific. i am using debian potato (kernel 2.2.17). i have
installed mgetty. when i try to configure the /etc/ppp/option.ttyS1 my pppd is
giving error. (/usr/sbin/pppd: bad local IP address 127.0.0.1) .how to set
this. now i commented all the config files and dial out is working as before.
now if a call comes my modem is responding. pls. help me to solve the problem.
ur problem is that u require a routable ip to provide dialin facility such that
services can be routed to the ppp port. so the first solution is to buy a
nework card :), but you can try adding a dummy network card with a static ip
like 192.168.X.Y, dunno how it is done in deb, since i lost touch with deb some
six months back. khader should be able to help you out.
you can try installing the dummy.o driver, as eth0 in your machine.
for your modem, you better put a hash in front of the inittab entry till your
networking is proper.
