Good question, Rajesh. I am myself puzzled, and look for some help from
Linux gurus on this list.
In fact, I've been having problems in finding a powerful e-mail client
for Linux (like Eudora Lite is to Windows). For someone for whom
e-mailing is about 60% of all my work, this is a serious concern for
me. In the past, attempts to shift over and (often unsucessfully) try
out various e-mailing clients causes trouble and irritation to others,
and quite some problems for myself too.
I think KMail is very light and fairly effective, but the version I
have [1.0.29] has some problems. To upgrade to the newer version of
KMail, I need to change my KDesktop, which might take some time.
Balsa can't seem to be findable on my PC, and the CSC mail (on the Nov
issue of PCQuest, which the author talks highly about) needs some other
files scattered across the Internet to have it installed.
Some of the limitations I have with KMail I have noticed are:
* Number of messages in any folder not specified.
You can't know whether a particular mailbox has 500 or
5000+ messages.
* If the connection cuts abruptly, you have to logout before
getting access to KMail again. The program seems to be
having problems in handling abrupt cutting-of-connection,
which happens often in Goa conditions.
* Search-and-find facilities don't seem to be very helpful.
This makes it difficult to locate a message one wants to
find immediately.
* I can't import my 700+ entry addressbook from Eudora.
Of course, KMail has its own plus points. It is light, and can easily
import mbox-type formats. Apparently, the new KMail can also import
address books from Outlook.
NetScape Mail is one option. But that only allows for single-POP. And
with five accounts, I have a difficulty in getting access to all my
mail.
Some of the more powerful Linux email clients are difficult to install,
even more so for a non-techie like myself.... Any suggestions? FN
