The soft modem are some time called controller less modem also meaning that
they do not have a controller IC, that is why they are cheap.
It has only ad/da converter and it becomes responsibility of CPU to generate
/decode necessary digital data to drive these ad/dac
So far I have not come across any driver for Rockwell chip set modem driver
under linux, but some basic command are implemented on cirrus logic chip
set.
My personal view is that soft modem are useless even on window and external
(with controller) modem are best.

LIH is all for free speech. But it was created
for a purpose. Violations of the rules of
this list will result in stern action.
