Hi
Block device is one which reads multiple bytes at once like your hard disk. A
serial device reads one byte at a time. Actually one bit at a time. The hardware
stores till 8 bit and then delivers a byte at once.
Typically devices that have multiple wires connectivity are block devices like
printer and hard disk.(Got to check about printer, right now I am in NT. Also
there are some serial printers to0) The devices which have single (data) wire
connectivity are serial devices as they can transmit only one bit at a time.
Mouse/keyboard/modems are serial devices...
Basically there are two modes of electronic data transmission. Serial and
parallel which imply the device classification roughly. So you got it right...
