We should exchange public keys. I should add your public key to my public
keyring and so on. You could mail me the key, but you cannot be expected
to mail it to every future correspondent. Better is to use some public
key server like www.keyserver.net (where you can find my public key).

> whats the difference between encryption and signing?

Well, encryption means an intruder cannot decipher the communication, even
if he manages to intercept it. signing means he can decipher the message,
but cannot alter it without being caught.

The usual technique is you encrypt with my public key, and then sign with
your private key. I, on receipt of the mail, will verify your signature
with your public key, and decrypt with my private key. And intruders
cannot decipher or alter the message.

PS: I'd appreciate if you mailed technical questions directly to the list.
I'm sure even if a query is not very linux specific, people would take
time off to answer it.
