Hi!

I have got an Intel i810 card but have not managed to make sound work on it.

My kernel is 2.4.0-test1. It has sound support compiled in (but not as
modules).
I installed alsa driver, lib and utils (version 0.5.9d). Configured with the
intel card option.

After that I
cd /usr/src/alsa-driver-0.5.9d
and
./snddevices

Also did modprobe snd-card-intel8x0

Finally, with alsamixer I increased volume to about 77% on all the options:
Master, Master M, Headphon, PCM, Line, MIC, CD and Video.

Finally I did an aplay on a .wav file. I can see the file is being played
(the hard disk light flickers) but there is no sound.

When I did lsmod, the modules listed were:
snd-card-intel8x0
snd-intel8x0
snd-pcm
snd-timer
snd-ac97-codec
snd-mixer
snd

The relevant entries in my /etc/conf.modules file are:

# ALSA portion
alias char-major-116 snd
options snd snd_major=116 snd_cards_limit=1
alias snd-card-0 snd-card-intel8x0

# OSS/Free portion
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss

What am I doing wrong? Is there any diagnostics possible to test which step
is wrong? On one posting I saw something about adjusting input gain. How is
it done?

Philip
