today, i switched from ISA-ne2k to rl8029 pci
after installation of card and editing of the
conf.modules, i gave init 3, system started and
detected the card, imediately i smelt something
foul -- The card hw address was 5a5a5a5a5a5a
this i did not take serious as the card was initialised
and it was working from my point, ie ping to another
machine responded well
then lo-and-behold everything changed,
ping - works to and fro
telnet - from another machine, no response (times out)
pop3 - from another machine, no response

iptraf with lan monitor shows tcp incoming bytes on the card
but no outgoing bytes were recorded.

my diskless clients were getting the DHCP leases
and tftp boot image also, but no telnet access

infact the card is not supporting TCP/IP
but tried it in Win95 and tested with NetBUEI
it works fine.

I asked a replacement and got one this was showing
hardware id 5254AB---- and I tested -- everything okay.

well a secure network card which doesnot permit network access ? phew!
