i've already made that entry in /etc/hosts before sending the mail. Even my DNS is 
working fine.

but now i when i have attached the printer on the local ltp port still it gives the 
same error & even my lpd daemon is failing to start, it also gave the same error.
i.e.
Get_local_host: 'localhost' IP address not available

but when i am printing from win98 it prints properly.

looks more like an network config problem. Is your pc given a definete IP?
Then put that in your /etc/hosts

it should look something like

*.*.*.*         your_pc.domain  your_pc
127.0.0.1       localhost       localhost.localdomain
<and other entries if required>
