it is working fine

$rsync -azve ssh [fileneme] user@hostnae:/path

here the option

-e rsh replacement is ssh am i rite sir

regarding the interface it is working very fine
# ifconfig
eth0    link encap:eth..
        inet addr:192.168.1.4 Bcast...

lo      Link encap:Local loopback
        inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask...

even my ping localhost & telnet localhost is working fine
but 
# telnet localhost 512 is not working giving error
Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused

see if the lo interface is up in ifconfig (and check /etc/hosts)
