Here is what I would advice you.

1)Blow away windows
2)Reinstall windows with a 4 GB partition
3)Install linux with 3 GB '/' and 256MB swap(Depending upon your requirement).
While installing linux leave a 2GB FAT for windows
4)Create /home on a separate partition.
5)Devide rest of space in chunk of alternate 3 and 4GB as left.

Don't worry about primary/secondary/extended etc. While installing linux you
will run into extended partition where you will enjoy rest of your computing
time....
