what is ur vGA card? Change the resolution in /etc/X11/XF86Config.

ps. if u need, then u can use my own image viewer based on SDL (i had
developed it to see the dloaded pics ;) u can customise it to show each
pic for specific time interval). It give max quality for JPEG pic
(16bit) in X.....
If it is 16 bit, then I can give u my own picture viewer....
