No firewall is good or bad. Define "good" ;-)

Linux has ONLY packet filtering capacity, and you can develop
a packet filtering firewall using "ipchains".
For 2.4 kernels, you also have a more powerful stateful tool,
"netfilter". ipchains are stateless.

Go thru "IPCHAINS-HOWTO". This would be a good starting point.
