hello all,
i got the kernel 2.4 tarball and i tried to compile with the following commands
make menuconfig
make dep
make bzImage
make modules
make modules_install
i got a bzImage which i copied into /boot.
copied System.map to /boot/Systemmapnew.map
ln -s Systemnew.map System.map
modified the /boot/grub/menu.lst
kernel=/boot/bzImage root=/dev/hdb2 vga=4
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
but the system hangs on booting
"Uncompressing Kernel..........."
what could be wrong. i have gone thru some howto's and did the above steps. i
have updated some programs like
gcc,cpp,libc6,libncurses5,binutils,bin86,perl-base,kernel-package. pls help me. i have
posted a message on audio driver for cyrix mediagx. for that i need to compile the
kernel.
