use rich text format to save and then u dont worry about target application.
AFIK, word, pagemaker, corel, wordperfect, star office for windows
wordperfect, staroffice, abisute for linux
pagemaker, quarkxpress, corel, word, wordperfect for Mac
abisuite for BeOS
do support <filename>.rtf { afile in rtf format }
I do not rely on wordpad of windows since tables, lines and line graphics
are
not quite supported. Pictures and inline graphics will retain properties
after
import. Pagemaker and QuarkXpress may require specific import and filter
selection
but word 6/7/97/2000 does not complain if you ask to open a rich text file.
and it will save the contents, too.
Infact I prefer this as defacto standard, since I can be safe from macros
which
are an integral part of the windows vulnerabilities.
