Try to find a symbol.ttf file from a Windows distribution if you have
one and copy it to the jre/lib/fonts directory in your JDK distribution
path (Apparently this font file is freely downloadable from somewhere in
Microsoft's website - but I don't know the URL ).

Now edit the fonts.dir file in that directory to add the following line :

symbol.ttf -urw-symbol-medium-r-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-adobe-fontspecific

Also increment the number on line 1 of the fonts.dir file (indicates the
number of font lines present in the file) and write back. (On the
Blackdown 1.3.0 JDK & Sun's 1.3.0_1 JDKs this number was 12 which I had
to change to 13 - Not sure about 1.2.2)

This should take care of the error messages.
