Don't know about ZZplayer, but here's something from yesterday's Freshmeat main page -

VideoLAN::Client 0.2.0 (Stable)

  The VideoLAN Client (vlc) is an MPEG-2 and DVD player for Unix and BeOS. It can play
MPEG-2 files from a pipe, from a
  network source, or directly from the DVD. There is support for X11, GGI, SDL, Gnome,
the Linux FrameBuffer device, and Esound.
