Well, RPM has a less used feature - that in your RPM spec file, you can
say what packages a given package conflicts with. For example, my ftpd-BSD
spec file has the line:

Conflicts: wu-ftpd

so, this package will refuse to install on machines where wu-ftpd is
installed.

More likely this is the case here.
