Thsat strikes a cord to me. If I put /var,/tmp and /home on separate partitions
and make /usr/local a link to somewhere else, then mounting / read only can
avoid a lot of trouble and risk of crashing the filesystem.

Am I right? ...Twice in last week my machine crashed due to power problem and
that too during fsck. I must do something to take care of my HDD...
