Thanks Mukund & other guys who responded to my mail. As an alternate I partitioned my 540MB hdd using the Debian installation disks (rescue.bin, root.bin), after doing this I rebooted my machine using the Red hat Linux CD 6.1, Voila !!! I didn't get any signal 11 problems:-), the installation went smoothly. As of now I'm booting Linux by the boot disk which I created using the Red hat Linux CD 6.1 installation. Now I have a working Linux system , still not confident enough to touch my win98 on my hda(20 GB) to install LILO on it :-<. (It's been lots of fun installing Linux... ) With Thanks & Regards, Indukumar ----- Original Message ----- From: "Indukumar" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Friday, February 23, 2001 2:24 PM Subject: Problem in installing Red hat Linux 6.1 | Hi, | | Yesterday I tried installing Red hat Linux 6.1 (PC Quest distribution) | | My PC configuration is : PIII 800 MHz, 64MB RAM, 20 GB HDD as | Primary Master, 52x CD drive as the | Sec. Master | 540 MB HDD as the secondary slave. | | Before starting the installation I disabled the Primary Master in the CMOS | setup. | (I didn't want to disturb the win98 on my new 20GB HDD !! I'm new to | Linux:-( | Selected the text installation option I chose English, PS/2 Mouse... | | I created the following partitions : (all on the "hdd" ie., secondary | slave) | /boot --> 16MB | Linux swap --> 64MB | / --> 200MB (with the option to grow) | | | Then I chose to write the LILO on the hdd boot record( 540MB HDD). When the | installation started to | format the hdd it terminated with signal 11 message. I repeated the | installation couple of | times but the same thing happened again. | | Do you guys know the reasons for the above problem ? Is it the problem with | Red Hat 6.1 ? | Or should I have to have my 540 MB hard disk as the Primary Master ? Is | there any other | distribution of Linux available in Madras/Chennai (India) ? please give me | the contact points, | price.. | | Thanks, | Indukumar | | | ---------------------------------------------- The mailing list archives are available at http://lists.linux-india.org/cgi-bin/wilma/linux-india-help
