I use i810 and alsa is working just fine with me.
After you have compiled alsa-driver(alsa-utils & alsa-lib are
optional) , ./snddevices, and then you have to do a
modprobe i810_audio.
Else go to the /lib/modules/<version>/misc/ directory, and you will find
i810_audio.o module. NOw modrobe it or insmod it. Then try aumix. Set
volume controls, and save it. And then modify your conf.modules file in
/etc/ directory as directed by the INSTALL file that comes with
alsa-drivers.
