You can always compile it and trying the new kernel without
risking the previous installation, don't you? I encourage you to try it
out yourself. Any way, I had downloaded it a month back, and compiled
it, and found it to be good, but didn't find any big difference. I too
use the 2.2.16-3 kernel. May be I don't know how to distinguish between
kernel performances.
