The kernel supplied with the network computing CD is 2.2.18pre21. I
think it has agpgart support, since during installation I configured it
to include i810 and agpgart modules. I found out that there was no
xserver_svga in /usr/X11R6/bin dir, so did a apt-get install from the
cd. But now, during xf86config, the x probe fails, and after xf86config,
the startx fails with the following error:
-----------------------------------------------------------
SVGA: PCI:Intel unknown chipset
SVGA: Stat failed on /dev/agpgart: No such file or directory
Fatal Server Error
Could not get memory from gart module and I810_UNSUPPORTED_GTT_FALLBACK
not set.
-------------------------------------------------------------
'lsmod' shows the following:
nls_cp437
pcmcia_core
videodev
i810_rng
i810_audio
soundcore
i810
agpgart
ac97_codec
ppp
slhc
vfat
unix
and my /etc/modules file has
vfat
ppp
ac97_codec
agpgart
i810
i810_audio
i810_rng
videodev
But /dev directory has no agpgart. Why is it so? Kindly Help me out of
this.
Another Doubt:
While using RH6.2, I had downloaded XFree86 4.0.2, and
they were all .tgz files. It came with Xinstall.sh script which I used
to install it. But you say I have to use apt-get/dselect to install it.
I guess apt-get/dselect are only for .deb files. Does that mean I have
to download XFree86 4 separately for Debian as .deb files? Please
clarify.

V Suresh.
