Most of the time, they are similar. Linux aims at full POSIX compliance,
so code written for other POSIX compliant Unixes will work on linux
without modifications most of the time. Also, I don't think you need to
worry about these issues during a basic Unix programming course.

Hard to comment without either the code or the exact error message. Can you
