Hi Satheesh,
Tripwire is a file-system integrity checking tool. When you first run
it (after configuring it) it calculates checksums for all critical
files and programs on your disk and stores them in its (text)
database. On subsequent runs, TW re-calculates the checksums for each
of these files and compares the calculated checksum with the master
one. In case there's a discrepancy, TW lets you know, since it could
mean that someone has replaced that file or program with a trojan.
You'd normally run TW in a cron job nightly.
