You are right, 2.4 is out but 2.2.x is still maintained and likely will be
for next couple of years.
You will be surprised to know that few days ago(Not more than a month)
2.0.39 was released, which was declared as last release of 2.0.x series. No
more feature requests are entertained there. You are advised to upgrade
first.....
Linux is maintained hell backward compatible....
