yup ssh is not installed on the machine, and i dont know whether NIC has
disabled ssh requests or not :(

had ssh been available then rsync would have been ideal for these kind of
stuff. One can edit the local files and update the stuff using rsync.
Rsync + ssh compression does wonders on slow lines
