What I liked about grub are the following things :

1. No 1024 cylinder barrier
2. There is option in grub to edit the parameters passed to the kernel or
   if you want to boot a different kernel than that can be done too. All
   this can be done while the boot menu of grub is displayed on the
   screen:-)
   
   For lilo if something does not work than you have to boot either a
different kernel / boot through floppy, then edit lilo.conf and than lilo
-v. This stuff is avoided which is really nice.

3. Grub is similar to a micro os. You can create a grub boot disk and
using that you can load any os if u know some grub commands such as for
loading kernel / loading os's such as win98.

4. There is also a nice menu which is displayed and you can select the os
by using up and down keys.

I have  not gone through the docs of grub fully, but there will be still a
lot of features about which I am not aware of. The documentation is
excellent. The deb file of Grub contains html documentation.
