Rupesh saw fit to inform me that:

For this I have to do scsi emulation of my CD-ROM too. Now I have removed
ignore hdc stuff from my /etc/modules.conf

Now I get the following output :

rajesh@debian:~$ cdrecord -scanbus
Cdrecord 1.9 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2000 Jrg Schilling
Linux sg driver version: 3.1.17
