I was able to use the older ppp with the 2.4 series... until 2.4.1 .. I
wasn't careful going thru the Docs .. :( .. and then when I upgraded to
2.4.2 the pppd refused to connect! then I went thru the docs and saw that
pppd had to be upgraded to 2.4.x .
Requirements for 2.4.3
