hi sukrit,
all linux distros are basically linux and it is only the front end and the
level of maturity of each distro differs.and rh7 would any time be better
fora newbie compared to the 2.2kernel series distros as 2.4 has more support
for i810 and newer devices and also xf864.0.3 with antialiased font
support.I would suggest you use mandrake as it has the best hw
detection, autoconfiguiration tools and normally is a step ahead of redhat.I
guess mandrake 8 is out I saw the iso on an ftp site.so go for it.
but redhat 7 would not be a bad choice.but AFAIK i810 is well supported on
mdk7.2 I have installed many i810 systems with mdk and rh7 and it works fine.

as anyone tried redhat 7.1? would it be better than
suse 7.1? or even perhaps mandrake 8(when it comes)?

i'm a relatively new user of linux. andi've had tonnes
of problems configuring my internet, my i810, my
soundcard... i'd like something that works fine. i've
tried mandrake 7.2, and redhat 7. both have failed my
purpose.
                   Thanks, Sukrit.D.
