Hi all
I upped my PC today morning (CPU was blown so it was down for more than 3
weeks)and compiled kernel 2.4.1 and I instantly recognised 128MB RAM. I am glad
that my investment is saved....;-)
However the HDD throughputs are down to 8MB/s from 12 MB/s. I haven't fiddles
with it much but any suggestions? I am also going to browse the latest thread
between Kingsley and Rajesh for that.
The PC seems relatively slower(May be because I haven't used it for long) but
good part is that no swap and hence even netscape comes a lot faster.
If anybody noticed, under 2.4.x, free always shows shared memory as 0. Any idea
why?
And any comparison between compilation time for 2.2.x and 2.4.x? On my company
machine 2.4.x got compiled in 5 minutes sharp. Whereas my home machine took 14
minutes. That's bit too much of performance difference for me.... 2.2.x used to
take around 7 minutes on my home machine
Or I compiled hell lot of unnecssary drivers in there?
Shridhar
