i used to experience this 'thrashing' thing a lot of time while running two
or three instances of netscape and after about an hour on the net with this.
And i could'nt even switch virtual consoles because the system became too
slow. I had 64m RAM and 32m swap in my machine at that time. I suppose the
low swap was the problem. I suppose the swap is also used to move lesser
used processes from the memory. and when these processes come back to life
you might experience general slowdown. maybe this is what he is refering to
when he says netscape loads faster without swap, or that he has not used a
128m PC before. Things generally improve with more RAM in Linux, unlike
woodendoz.
Correct me if i'm wrong. I'm still learning this fantastic OS
