a) The licensing part -- Sometimes in order to ensure "quality" a certain
amount of restriction is good in an otherwise chaotic world. After all, Linus
Torvalds still maintains a certain 'control' over the kernel. Discussion of
the BSD type license is perhaps not correct in this forum, so I chose to
remain silent.
b) Configuration -- well ... I would share your feelings that initially they
look kinda weird: /var/qmail/.... is a world in itself! However, once you get
to play around in those subdirectories then it is just a matter of "hanging
around" and having fun. [/var/qmail/control for example simplifies things]
[and the last line dot on a line by itself in /var/qmail/../assign is a neat
trick to ensure nobody fools around or messes up the configuration].
