a) RHL7.1 comes with iptables and ipchains. You can use only one/one of the
two.
b) The simplest way to decide is to run #setup -> then select the services
option. This will list the services which will start at boot time. Select
(with the space bar) iptables and deselect ipchains (if it has been selected).
c) Write up a text file which contains the ruleset for iptables and place the
file in a subdirectory for startup scripts (say /etc/rc.d/rc.iptables).
Alternatively, if you use Gnome and the graphical configuration tool provided
then your iptables ruleset will automatically be stored in
/etc/sysconfig/firewall.
d) The error message you got is Linux's way of informing you that the kernel
module has not been loaded (iptables is treated as a separate module).
e) For more detailed info please lookup the IPTABLES HOWTO (by Rusty Corp) as
well as the Netfilters document at http://netfilter.samba.org
