There's an RFC which has a rather long and detailed explanation of just why.
MX records are supposed to point to A records.  RFC 1034 section 3.6.2 says:

> Domain names in RRs which point at another name should always point at
> the primary name and not the alias.

 vikram is the MX right?  That has an A record, ok.
