you can use OpenLDAP for the address book. http://www.openldap.org/ for more..

The best combo would be Sendmail/Postfix+OpenLDAP+Samba+CyrusIMAP+Worldpilot
Although i would suggest you give some thought to using a sceduling/workflow
utility that's built with Apache+PHP+PostgreSQL/MySQL (or write one yourself!)

So, you get a more robust mailing system (Sendmail/Postfix), 'public' folders (IMAP),
Scheduling/Calendering(WorlPilot), GAL (OpenLDAP), and even the (in)famous exchange 
'sync' (rsync over ssh and two LDAP m/c's updating each other).
